Racing and track season is in full swing now! August is coming, and in the Pacific Northwest that means every single weekend from here to September has a racing, track days, test days, and autocross events. Are you ready? Is your car ready? Do you have a plan? Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of this busy time of the year.
Prep the car- Back to back to back weekends are hard on a car. Most drivers don’t have time to inspect and repair cars between races that close together, so plan ahead. Get all of your maintenance (engine oil, fluids, brakes, etc) done now, before the big stretch. Have your car inspected by an independent race shop to help you determine if there is something you are overlooking. Do you have all of the expendable parts you need in stock, like brake pads and tires and other consumables. If you wait until the last second to buy parts, you will pay higher shipping costs, you won’t be able to install them on YOUR schedule, or worse you might miss an event.
Don’t forget about your tow rig. It needs love too!!
Prep the driver- Now is the time to look ahead and warn your family, schedule time off from work if needed, submit your entry forms ahead of time, and reserve hotel rooms. Inspect your driver’s gear for anything that might need to be repaired or replaced. Continue with the workout and healthy eating plan you started during the winter and early spring. This is when spring preparation really starts to pay off!
Hire a driver coach- Is it “Practice makes Perfect” or “Perfect Practice makes Perfect”? Accelerate your learning by hiring a driver coach! A driver coach will help you create a specific plan to get better results and you will have more fun doing it.
